‘I compare photography to the gaze of a hiker on a mountaintop. From there you can see the whole valley. I regard standing at a distance, being an observer, and having an overview as being equivalent to the position and significance of the camera.’ This, and other more personal and remarkable observations by the artist Ilona Plaum appear in the first large monograph of her work, which will be presented in Huis Marseille on 8 May. The writer, curator and art critic Hans den Hartog Jager contributed a text to the book. Be there – and pick up a signed copy!
